Last week I joined Amadeus sailing club and today I went out with them on the sea in a big sailing boat. We met at the pier in Antibes at ten and used the engine to get out at sea. There was almost no wind in the morning hours, but the sun was nice and warm.

It was truly wonderful to get out at sea again, hear the waves, and feel the boat going up and down. Now safely home in Sophia I feel the floor and table with my computer going up and down as if still on the sea. I will probably dream I’m on a boat as well.

We learnt the basics of sailing. In French. Which means I didn’t learn the basics of sailing, since I’m not that good yet. However I learnt two basic knots and I helped with the ropes when turning. There were lots of nice sailing terms for everything but I can’t remember them now.

I met James and Marie, a really nice couple, also from Amadeus. He’s from England and she from Spain. Interesting to be among people from different places! Hope to see them again.

And here is the beach we usually go to, when going down after work.

Cap d’Antibes, where the really rich people have their palaces.

Overview of Antibes and the harbor.

During the day we went out more towards Nice, then turned and went the other direction and didn’t have a particular aim for our trip more than having a nice day. The skipper showed us picture of dolphins and even whales and we sat there keeping an eye on the sea hoping to sea some, but none came this day.

Instead of dolphins we got to see this gigantic sailing ship, a brand new ship made with an old look but with top modern tecniques.

On the way home I sat with my legs over the side of the boat and just watched the blue water, the waves and the foam which kept coming, circle around a little and disappearing again. That is a thing I could do for many hours. So relaxing. Gives me time and space to think.
